Playa Grande Surf Camp
A small hostel two hundred metres from Playa Grande with treehouse rooms and a pool — the quiet side of the estuary from Tamarindo, and a beach break rather than a scene.

About this camp
Playa Grande sits directly across the estuary from Tamarindo — fifteen minutes' walk, a different world — and is the beach most Tamarindo surf schools drive their better students to. This is a small, deliberately laid-back hostel on its south side, under two hundred metres from the sand, with an onsite café, a pool and wifi throughout. The accommodation is more varied than its size suggests: shared dorm beds, private cabinas and treehouse-style rooms, many with air conditioning. Lessons and a range of other tours are arranged through the camp. Liberia airport is about an hour away, which makes it one of the easier Guanacaste arrivals. The Pacific dry season here runs roughly Dec–Apr, and Playa Grande is a beach break that holds size — it is a step up from the protected corner at Tamarindo rather than an easier alternative to it, which is worth knowing before booking it as a first trip. Honest caveats: no prices are published anywhere on the site, in any currency, for rooms or lessons, so nothing is recorded here. There is no booking engine — enquiries go by email or phone. Its recency evidence is good for a small operator: a current-year copyright plus a gallery image dated April 2025. Nothing is published about who teaches, their certification, or group sizes, so no claim is made about instruction quality.
