Lufthansa
Lufthansa's general surfboard policy — pick a destination and board length on Board Check to see a verdict for your trip.
Before you buy
- Weight cap: 32 kg per board bag.
- Must be booked/reserved in advance.
- Codeshare note: the operating carrier's policy applies, not the marketing carrier's.
- Always confirm current terms directly with Lufthansa before you book.
Full policy notes
A surfboard can count as one of your free checked bags if your fare's piece and weight allowance has room — except on Economy Light. Otherwise a flat rate applies: standard sports equipment up to 200 cm, bulky sports equipment from 200 to 315 cm. Anything longer than 315 cm or heavier than 32 kg must go as air freight. Register it at least 72 hours before departure; carriage depends on hold space. The current page links to a calculator for prices; the last published table (2021) listed €80 standard / €130 bulky within Europe. Text read from a 2026-08 Wayback snapshot (live site bot-walled).
