Playa Carrizalillo
A small cove west of Puerto Escondido, walled in by rocky headlands that filter the swell that makes Zicatela unrideable for most people. It is where the town's lessons happen, reached down a long flight of steps, and the wave itself is the gentlest in the area.

The wave is genuinely small and the paddle is short — but this is not graded as a first-timer spot, and the reason is the crowd rather than the water. Its own forecast page calls it popular and crowded, and a visitor account there describes fifty-plus surfers in a cove sized for a dozen, with paid instructors controlling who gets waves. Go early, go with a school, and expect company.
Hazards
- rocks
- rip currents
