Sanur Reef

Sanur & East Coast, Indonesia-8.697° 115.264°
Levels 2-5Typical size: 2–6 ft

A reef break off Sanur's lagoon, sheltered from the prevailing southwest swell and wind that batter the west coast - it works best on east-facing swells, which is also the dry-season wind direction on the west side. A quieter, less crowded alternative to Kuta and Canggu.

Beginner notes

Easier than Bali's west-coast reefs at small-to-moderate size; still a reef, so booties and a guide for first-timers. Good shoulder-season option when the west coast is blown out.

Hazards

  • shallow reef at low tide
  • boat traffic from the harbour channel
